A picturesque day at Jack Poole Plaza, where thousands gathered to celebrate Vancouver’s 125th birthday.
LURED BY PROMISES of Gregor Robertson, a gigantic cake, and free valet bike parking, folks from across the region gathered at Jack Poole Plaza yesterday to celebrate an arbitrary number of years since the official incorporation of our city.
Feeling obliged to document the festivities, photographers from The Dependent set out, intending to snap a few glamour shots of the Mayor, a smiling baby or two, and some kids playing street hockey. Turns out we weren’t alone.
There were professionals:
Enthusiasts:
Amateurs:
And cyborgs:
There were so many cameras that it was impossible to take a picture without taking a picture of someone taking a picture. People were taking pictures of everything.
Signs:
Us:
Themselves:
The crowd:
Their children:
And even some things that couldn’t be seen:
It was an all-out orgy of digital documentation, and we were so busy documenting it that we have no idea what happened.
Anyway, it’s gonna look damn fine on Facebook.
Happy birthday Vancouver!
Oh man, I’m gonna get so many Likes on this picture…
