Litres of wastewater pumped into the Strait of Georgia every day: 500 million
According to statistics from Metro Vancouver, the Iona wastewater facility, which provides primary treatment to raw sewage from across the metro region, pumps around 500 million litres of sewage into the Strait of Georgia every day. Primary treatment – the only type that Iona provides, removes roughly half the “solids” in the wastewater, enough to pass Canadian Government tests for “Acute Lethality”.
