Top headlines from Vancouver and beyond for October 28 2011:

Thursday sees the first dusting of snow on the North Shore mountains.

Details emerge in the crash of a small Kelowna-bound commuter plane at YVR which hospitalized 11 and killed the pilot.

According to former Sam Sullivan Chief of Staff and rabidly-partisan NPA blogger Daniel Fontaine, mayoral candidate Suzanne Anton has little hope of defeating incumbent Gregor Robertson. What’s at stake in this race, according to Fontaine, is the composition of council, with a potential Vision minority threatening to leave Robertson as a weak mayor.

Meanwhile, infrastructure at #OccupyVancouver continues to grow despite Robertson’s public calls for the camp to be disassembled.

And finally, the Auditor General has found that BC Hydro is keeping rates artificially low by deferring billions in expenses. By not recognizing the costs immediately, the Crown corporation is able to show higher profits and thus pay the provincial government inflated dividends. New Canada-wide accounting standards prohibiting the practice are being rejected by the provincial government despite vocal opposition from Auditor General John Doyle.
