It’s Remembrance Day. Head on over to the National Film Board of Canada’s WWII portal and get your remembrance on.

The Globe publishes Dispatch from an Occupier: Why Vancouver protest must stay. The highest scoring comment out of over 200: “I think the lesson to be learned here is: If you want people to listen to you, you actually have to have something to say.” And just a few clicks away, Rod Mickelburgh opines over the movement’s gradual change from a protest against corporate greed to a protest over whether the protest should remain.

Meanwhile, internal NPA polling released to The Vancouver Sun suggests that the mayoral race is tightening up, with a majority of respondents indicating they disagree with Robertson’s handling of #Occupy Vancouver. Reporter Jeff Lee gives some great insight into the politics behind the NPA’s decision to release the poll.

The first Stanley Cup riot defendant has received an absolute discharge despite pleading guilty to possession of stolen property. 18-year-old Karanvir Singh Saran from Surrey was arrested after a teacher overheard him bragging about stolen swimsuits. Police chief Jim Chu called the outcome a “slap on the wrist” and stressed the importance of doing proper diligence before recommending charges. Saran’s case was handled by Mounties and is not related to VPD efforts.

The Keystone XL project has been dealt a major blow by the Obama administration’s decision to force Transcanada Corp. to seek alternative routes for the pipeline. The move pushes any final decision on the project until at least 2013 and has sent shockwaves through the Canadian energy sector, long dependant on U.S. exports and fully expecting the pipeline’s approval.
