The B.C. Liberals will release their highly anticipated provincial budget today, with The Globe pointing out the political significance for the embattled party. CBC, meanwhile, notes that finance minster Kevin Falcon opted not to purchase new shoes for the announcement, despite the tradition. “I can’t right now justify buying a new pair of shoes,” CBC quotes Falcon. “It’s kind of like what we’re asking of ministries. We’re saying to ministries, ‘You need to do more with the dollars you already have.’” Oh, I get it.

Vancouver Police have thrown their support behind Bill C-30, the so-called “child pornographers” bill, in the face of widespread online protest. The legislation, touted as a tool to modernize law enforcement capabilities in the digital age, has come under fire for its broad privacy implications, including giving police access to identifying information online without a warrant.

Provincial Health Minister Mike de Jong has announced the government is considering new regulations on tanning-bed use for minors, either banning it outright or requiring parental consent, the Sun reports.

And in related news, talented women from around Vancouver answered the casting call for Canada’s version of “The Bachelor”, and The Georgia Straight completed its slide into trashy tabloid with a third-rate photojournal.
